Snack Attack: Nakd Bars

If you haven't heard of them before, Nakd bars are great. Seriously. I would say that these are my new snack obsession but I have a love in my heart for them for years.

Although Natural Balance Foods now produce quite a few different varieties of healthy snacks (infused raisins, oatie bars, protein bars, flapjacks etc), this post is specifically about the Fruit and Nut Bars. These are bars made from purely raw fruit and nuts. This is the number one thing I like about these products; their lack of ingredients. They have no additives, no added sugar, no added preservatives, no added anything! They are also completely vegan and wheat + gluten free (for anyone who this affects). On top of all of this, they are delicious!

In fact, to emphasise how natural the ingredients in the fruit and nut bars are, I have deconstructed the ingredients in each for all of the flavours: Cocoa Mint // Cocoa Orange // Caffe Mocha // Cashew Cookie // Pecan Pie // Berry Delight // Ginger Bread // Rhubarb & Custard // Cocoa Delight (They also have two other flavours: Christmas Pud and Bakewell Tart).

I am always in disbelief at the flavours of these bars considering they contain only dates, nuts (either cashews, almonds and/or pecans), raisins and a hint of natural flavours! If you look on the back of a regular 'healthy' cereal bar, take a look at the list of ingredients on the back (I bet you won't even recognise half of the 30 or so ingredients, many of which sound like chemicals that should not be added to food). These bars show that you don't need all of that!

The bars have a soft and chewy texture and even though I always try to savour the taste for as long as possible, I finish them quickly! They are a great mid-morning snack; perfect to take with you on the go to school, university or work to keep you going until lunch time!

But really, there is only so much I can say...you have to try for yourself and see! Find out more here.
