Well, the last couple of days have been busy! On Saturday from 3 o'clock onwards, my sister, brother-in-law and some of their friends went into Glasgow to celebrate his birthday. The first place we went in was TGI Fridays, purely for the cocktails! Has anyone ever seen them make cocktails in there?! It's amazing! I only actually had one to drink (a strawberry daiquiri) but I was quite content sitting at the bar for a few hours watching the cocktails being made. I so want a job in there.
Anyway, I tried to take a photo of my outfit before I went but as you can see below, it didn't really work... I need someone (like my mother) to take them!
On Sunday, I made my brother-in-law's birthday cake....which resulted in a very messy kitchen! I was going to make a big iPhone but unfortunately my local supermarkets had hardly any decorating things so I just had to improvise! My cake turned out half the size I had planned as I used a Victoria sponge recipe for two tins in one large rectangular tin...as you can imagine, it came out of the oven like a pancake:
So, again improvising, I cut it in half and stacked one half ontop of the other with blackcurrant jam. I decided to stick with plain white icing with a decorative chocolate trimming and pretty red bow!
I then added some black and white photos and his name:
Sounds simple but it really wasn't! Mainly because of the cleaning up ;)
After I dropped that off, I stayed at their house for a little while, laughing at my little nephew making up random words and dancing to the music on the TV. How cute is he?!
Now I am just sitting with my coffee (decaff still!) and uni work (semiotics or web design anyone?!) procrastinating as much as possible. By the looks of the weather here I won't be out of the house all day. Maybe some more baking is in order!

oops...camera took the photo before I moved away
Yeah... still getting used to my camera's autofocus!

Then I came home and made my dinner which was a kind of healthy carbonara: zucchini and carrot and green bean noodles (bet you've never heard of them before!) with mixed veg (broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, peas, corn and peppers) and turkey breast chunks in a sauce made from greek yogurt, dried garlic powder, mixed herbs and pepper. It was delicious!
How was your weekend? Busy or chilled? How are you at decorating cakes? Are you lucky enough to have Monday off too?! (;

Love the outfit and jewellery. Did you make the necklace? Great idea for the cake
ReplyDeleteThankyou! No, I didn't make the necklace..wish I did though! I suppose it would be quite easy to make!
DeleteOK that cake is fantastic! I don't make cakes often...Mostly because when I do make cakes my husband and I have this amazing talent of eating the entire thing in a day or two...True Story ;)
ReplyDeleteI had a really great weekend...It wasn't overly busy but it was CHILLED in that the weather was bitterly cold!
Why thankyou (: haha, I don't often make cakes as whenever I make them to decorate I always end up eating the bits I have to cut off and the icing!
DeleteI know what you mean about the weather! Counting down the days until summer!
I truly love your website.. Great colors & theme.
ReplyDeleteDid you build this site yourself? Please reply back as I'm attempting to create my own site and would love to know where you got this from or what the theme is named. Kudos!
